I have also done some experimentation, checking out exactly what happens when the CG of a model is shifted further and further forward, or aft a bit, a bit more and aft even further until it crashes. I experimented with the design of floats for seaplanes, different lengths, different mounting angles, different step positions. I measured the thrust from various electric motors, a variety of props, the thrust lost when the cowling is nearly as big as the prop in front, the thrust loss when the prop is on backwards.

I wrote articles on scale models, debunked the idea of flying at “scale speed” and described a method for calculating what compromise might result in a convincing scale model. And there is my Excel spreadsheet for doing all the calculations effortlessly.
